In summary

Thorn Apple Country Club is generally praised for its well-maintained course, challenging yet enjoyable layout, and friendly staff, with many noting improvements made by the new ownership, including upgrades to the clubhouse and facilities. However, some visitors have experienced issues with slow pace of play, particularly during league times, and have noted that certain areas, like the parking lot and fairways, could benefit from further attention. Overall, the club is appreciated for its value and the positive changes underway.

Very fun course with fairness to all levels of player. I really enjoy the greens. They’re challenging. Also have enjoyed the clubhouse improvements as well! Be sure to get a frosty mug from Kelly behind the bar. A1 service. Highly recommend.

Be careful not to book tee times in the afternoon of the golf league. We had a mid afternoon tee time. We finished the front 9 in just under 2 hours and found 7 groups waiting to tee off at hole 10. We quickly found out that the golf league was put in front of us, and we were given a “turn time” 45 minutes later. I’ve never in my life heard of a turn time. When we asked the staff, the man in the Pro Shop could not care less. “The system put in 2.5 hours for each nine so your turn time is what it is. It told you when you registered.” It in fact does not show that anywhere and when I attempted…

Fairways are in rough and spotty at best condition. It looks like they are trying to save on irrigation…. The whole course is drier than an asphalt parking lot! Hole markers are peeling paint and flaking off. Green side bunkers are concrete. Disappointed to say the least…. Would not recommend to anyone. The pro shop and rangers were rude and had a very bad attitude… for a course trying to put themselves out as a ‘Golf Club’, they need to get a clue on what that entails.

Love Thornapple. Played in a men’s league here for several years and the staff is always great. New ownership has it going in the right direction with new tee boxes, clubhouse, simulators, etc. Make a tee time for a fun but challenging round.

I have been going to Thorn Apple for the past 10 years. I booked a tee time thinking I was getting the same old Thorn Apple experience—but boy was I pleasantly surprised! The new ownership has made fantastic changes—from phenomenal new carts (the most comfortable carts I’ve used anywhere) to the improved parking lot to much improved shape of the grass itself. I hesitated to leave this review so I could gatekeep it…but I think the new ownership deserves the credit!

Played here twice in a week Monday and Thursday, course is fantastic condition, pro shop associates friendly, professional especially the young lady who went out of her way to help me set up an account to book online. Another special recognition to the fantastic drink attendant happy go lucky. Love this course, new owners moving in the right direction. Will definitely be back before seasons end A very happy golfer!!!

This is still one of my favorite courses in Columbus. It’s wide open, plays long, and is great for both beginners, hacks, Low handicappers, and casual players. 80% of the challenge on this course is on approach and the greens. Heard there were new owners who had online tee time booking up and running within a week. Also a great bar. The only bad thing I can say about it is the parking lot needs updated and expanded.

I have been golfing at Thorn Apple for years. It is a fun track. The new ownership has made some welcome investments and upgrades that are just improving the overall experience. The team there has done a great job keeping the course in shape and it continues to be a great place to play.

When did golf courses in Central Ohio stop irrigating? When did they stop putting sand in the bunkers? When did they stop seeding tee boxes? Playing courses like this with hard-pan fairways will ruin your confidence, game, and enjoyment. Jack Kidwell would be traumatized to see what's become of his design.

This has been my favorite course in the area for 25 years and I can tell the new ownership is really making improvements. Unfortunately, it took us 4 hours and 15 minutes to play 16; holes today. We left when the 17 tee box had a 2 group wait.
