In summary

Pomperaug Golf Club is appreciated for its friendly and accommodating staff, pleasant layout, and affordability, making it a popular choice for casual and beginner golfers. However, many visitors express concerns about the course's maintenance, citing issues such as patchy fairways, neglected bunkers, and overbooking leading to delays. Despite these criticisms, some players find the course enjoyable and well-suited for a quick round.

Decided to amend my review after playing all 9 holes. The fairways are still a mix of goose poop, dirt patches, and tall weed patches. The roughs are even worse. Between the dirt and weeds, it's hard to find your ball. The greens are the only well maintained part they just need to clear off the tree debris and Catkins off it more often. Nobody takes a leaf blower to them apparently. There are also no rakes at the bunkers. Certain holes even have cones covering holes and pits. Or instead of just filling them. Staff was friendly, and the layout is great, just be aware that they even have a rule…

Everytime I play here they overbook. Came for 12 o’clock tee time 10 minutes early and didn’t get to hit my first drive till 12:45. This has been a repetitive issue. The course its self is fun but mildly maintained. Would play again because I am local, but don’t expect to get on the course right away.

The course is in horrendous shape. I am no golf expert, but I assume there should not be weeds and dirt patches and holes everywhere-- so much so that when you're hitting, you're 80% fishing the ball out of the grass or whatever ditch it landed in, and 20% actually getting a decent hit. The holes are all pretty similar, and again, I am no golf expert, but I assume that there is supposed to be some sort of variance between holes. Regardless, that is not why I'm leaving this review. I went to enjoy some *laid back golf* morning/midday on a *Monday*. I assume most people are in office, at work, a…

Pretty course lovely scenery! The course gets a lot of play,we went on a Thursday afternoon and each hole had a group on and one waiting. The course is a bit rough, but well worth the price for a quick 9. It has nice layout and very playable tho a bit short. The staff is friendly staff and players!

I get it’s later in the season, but no reason to be hitting off crabgrass when in the middle of the fairway. Bunkers look to have not been replenished in years and some have just been straight up abandoned. Then there is the greens where no one appears to have fixed a ball mark in a decade. It’s fine for a quick 9 practice round, but it needs a lot of TLC.

What a great course for the money. Alot of water(ponds and rivers). Greens are true. Owner is super nice as well. I'm not a member there. Just visiting CT. Will 100% go back when in town.

All in all I think this course is worth the play . It’s pretty causal u won’t run into being rushed by the group behind you or any strict dress code, the reviews are correct the course isn’t in the best condition comparing to other courses around the area . But if you’re a beginner golfer you will love playing this course it’s flat and pretty straight . The clubhouse is very helpful as well give it a shot it’s worth the $35 to ride

Played very late in the season. Course was very very fast. Very nicely appointed and in a very quiet area. Other players friendly and courteous. Very inexpensive as well. Not much of a pro shop. If you're here to play some casual golf with technical elements it's a great nine hole course.

The staff was very friendly but the condition of th course made me sad. About 20 years ago this course was absolutely beautiful and my high school team played here as one of our courses. It’s a fun layout and was very well maintained. The course still has a good setup, but it’s poorly cared for compared to how it was in the 90’s and early 2000’s.

This course has 2 issues. The main reason for the low star rating is the horrible fairways. There's so many holes and grass less areas, you're better off hitting from the rough. The other reason is there are always people from heritage village that think they own the course. The past three times I've gone, there is some old-timer giving me problems. It's not worth playing go over to western hills instead.

The course is in horrible shape. It's not an interesting layout in the best of times, but this spring, even with spring rules, it's hard to find a patch of grass to put your ball on. Bare patches, and rough stands of what looks like crabgrass everywhere. The fairways are no better than the rough, I told out league president to never schedule there again.
