In summary

The Tradition Golf Club at Oak Lane is frequently praised for its well-maintained course, challenging layout, and friendly staff, with amenities like GPS-equipped carts and beverage service enhancing the experience. Many appreciate the efficient pace of play management, though some find the enforcement of tee time and pace policies to be overly strict. While the greens are noted for their speed and difficulty, some guests express frustration with the noise from maintenance activities and the club's no-spectator policy.

I am a frequent customer at Oak Lane and have to say, I really appreciate the efforts the staff makes with pace of play. I choose to play here because the conditions are great (love the fast greens), but also the effort the staff puts in to keep my tee times on time and at a good pace. If this is something that is important to you, you have to give Oak Lane a shot!

Really nice course, good price, and carts are very comfortable with GPS. There is a mix of dog legs and wide open fairways which is nice. The fairways themselves are in good shape especially considering drought conditions. The greens are incredibly difficult for the average player. Every green slants forward a large amount and they are very hard to read. Not one person in my group could sink a 1st putt. Very difficult to get a ball to sit on the green with an iron shot. The different color flags on the green to determine flag position was a nice touch and a great idea. Rangers are seen a l…

Multiple chainsaws running in the middle of the day. Felt like we had our own personal lawnmower following us all round. Second time this has happened.

My boyfriend and I recently made the 2+ hour drive to Oak Lane Golf Course, excited for a relaxing day together while he played a round. He’s an experienced golfer with a 1 handicap and has played nearly every public course in Connecticut never once encountering a course that enforces a strict no spectators rule, especially not this rigidly. To be fair, we later saw the no spectator policy listed on their website, our mistake for missing it. But we still hoped for some basic human decency and understanding. I wasn’t asking to play, just to walk along and spend time with him. We even offered t…

Course is always in great shape. Staff is always diligent and organized. Usually very good at monitoring and aiding pace of play if it slows down. Carts are up to date with interactive screens. Some tight tee shots and approaches make it interesting, and there are also some wide open holes and short par 4s/5s to swing away and go after. Great course, very playable for average golfers.

This review is long overdue. I play at Oak Lane often for a multitude of reasons. To put it quite simply, this course is a “gem”. As a public course, pound for pound this is the best bang for your buck. I’d stack this up against Great River, Centennial and almost any other track you can name within a 50 mile radius. Fairways are gorgeous. Greens are true and very fast. Layout is terrific and the staff is as welcoming as it gets. Do yourself a favor and head to Tradition at Oak Lane and tell em, Alan sent ya. I promise you won’t be disappointed. But be warned - this track will challenge your be…

I visit my old home Connecticut each summer for a couple of months for the last 3 years and I must say this is one of the finest maintained daily fee courses you can play in the state. Equal to many town courses, and as of end of July the greens are as good as many private golf clubs. Very friendly staff, beverage service on the course and a nice driving range. I definitely recommend giving this course a try, competitive pricing and the round will be both challenging and fun.

Played here for the first time with my dad, cousin and uncle on April 9, 2025. We had a lot of fun. The starter, Tracey, was very nice. The course was in good shape and I really liked the layout of some of the holes. Pace of play was good. We’ll be back!

I deejay and did a photobooth here a few times. This location is perfect for events but the parking is kinda far from the entrance. Wish they could do something about that, especially at night walking to the car is dangerous and difficult.

A nice public golf course. The course is interestingly designed with challenging holes and greens in very nice condition. As with many public courses the course has some wear but the staff seems friendly. The cart for drinks and snacks rotates frequently. I will definitely return.
