In summary

Great Rock Golf Club is frequently praised for its excellent course conditions, challenging layout, and beautiful scenery, with many golfers appreciating the fast greens and well-maintained fairways. The staff is noted for their friendliness, and the on-site restaurant receives high marks for its quality. However, some reviews mention issues with course maintenance, such as overgrown tee boxes and rough areas, and a lack of water availability on hot days.

Perfect tee boxes, fairways, rough, and greens. Practice range and putting green are very nice. Beautiful scenery as well. Challenging yet fun course design and they seem to be constantly improving.

Been several years since I played here. They have raised the bar substantially. Course was in excellent condition with tricky and fast greens.

I am so happy to have this course back up and running. I played this morning in 3.5 hours, all while taking our time. The course is in unbelievable condition. The Tee Boxes were beautiful. The Fairways were in awesome shape. The difficult Greens rolled perfectly. Add in the views from almost every hole and you have in my opinion, one of the nicest courses to play. I enjoyed playing here so much that I went right in after the round and made another tee time for next week. Can't wait to get back here.

We are so happy with this course! Me, my husband and two buddies played today and the play was fairly quick and the greens were in great shape. Staff was friendly and drinks were cold! We ate lunch in the restaurant in the clubhouse and it was delicious. Wings and burger, excellent. All around great experience, great day.

Played over the weekend, course is in fantastic shape. I never played this course prior to the new management group, but heard/read horror stories about course condition. Greens are mint and fast. Tee boxes and fairways also in great condition. Overall a great round. Our 4-some (including my 6 year old) played in 4 hours on a weekend which is unheard of for a public track on Long Island. 12 minutes between tee times is perfect, don’t change anything!!!!! Can’t wait to come back when range and restaurant are open!!

Played there two times over the last two weeks. The course is in beautiful condition, you feel like you are playing at a private country club. There are no groups in front of you or behind you. You feel like you have the whole place to yourself. The nicest surprise is that they give you a free beer at the turn. We enjoyed it so much, we went back up after the round for lunch. They are keeping it very low key, so much that you can only make a reservation directly with them. Each round on a Friday morning took about 3.5 hrs. Looking forward to going back.

More expensive than other courses in the area, which would be fine if the conditions were not so poor. The rough is mostly crabgrass and there were holes where you couldn't tell where the fairway was because they had not been mowed. The bunker sand is great except for all the rocks. No driving range and no practice area except for a smallish putting green. The clubhouse is well maintained and clean and the staff is friendly. When the range opens and the conditions improve, it might be worth the price. But not right now.

So glad to have this place back ! For it just getting back up and running I’m shocked. Free beer, great greens, care for every mark on the course. Every ball mark and shot mark is filled and being repaired. Trash can on the tee boxes no mess of the tee box. Great hole locations. Brand new usb golf carts. This place is public and member this year. We will become members next year if it’s not too much cost. Definitely the weekly spot to play for this year and beyond. Keep going keep improving this course ! Thanks

Very happy they resurrected this gem! Course was in incredible shape, the greens were at pga level speed. I can’t wait to go back before season ends. Much success to the new owners. Beware there are no ball washers at tee boxes.

My friends and I played GR this past Saturday after not having played there for almost a year. It was a pleasant surprise to see the same friendly faces in the pro shop and it was nice to start our round dealing with staff who are just plain nice as well as professional. The course was in great shape taking into account that they just aerated the greens a week or 2 ago - thankfully they used the small tines aerator instead of the larger plug-type. We ran into some of the maintenance guys pulling the large leaf blowers on the fairways and they graciously shut the blowers down while we were hitt…

The golf course should be closed. Absolutely the worst course I have EVER PLAYED. Tee boxes were all grab grass and over grown. The fairways were decent but most of them were crab grass. The greens were half bare and the parts that were grass were cut so short. This course is the potential to be great with its layout and elevation changes but needs a ton of work. Everything was over grown and edges of bunkers were washed out from the rain. Should not be charging 45 dollars to play that course in that condition. Wish I never went but now I know never to come back

Had a 824 tee time today. Play was fast but course is in horrible shape. Rough and fairways were a total mess more like a cow pasture rather than a golf course. No food or drinks available. Zero drinking water on the course. Traps were not raked or even weeded. Greens were ok. So much potential but they need to maintain the property.
