In summary

Shore Gate Golf Club is highly praised for its beautifully designed and challenging course layout, which offers a rewarding experience with well-maintained greens and fairways. The staff is generally regarded as friendly and helpful, enhancing the overall experience. However, some criticisms include the outdated clubhouse facilities, occasional slow pace of play, and inconsistent maintenance of tee boxes. Despite these issues, many consider it a must-play destination for serious golfers visiting the Jersey Shore.

Shore Gate Golf Club (New Jersey, USA) Played: Sunday early morning, paid $175. Shore Gate Golf Club is a beautifully designed and challenging course that offers great playability and solid conditions. While the price is on the higher end, it's justified by the course experience. However, the small and outdated clubhouse and lack of GPS in carts may leave some wanting more. Still, it’s a must-play in the region for serious golfers looking for a rewarding round. 1. Course Layout: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ (4.5/5) The layout is excellent—challenging but fun. Tee shots, approach shots, and green complexes are…

The bad reviews surely are old. I played here and had a fantastic time - the layout of the course is phenomenal, the conditions are top. A bit challenging for the higher handicapers, but great risk-reward. Staff super helpful and professional. A bit pricey, but you get what you pay. Recommended.

Played Shore Gate with my wife on 04/16/2026 and have to say had one of the better experiences in awhile. Don't let the quiet dead-end road fool you — Shore Gate is the real deal. It's the only course at the Jersey Shore to land on both Golf Digest and Golf Magazine's best new public courses list, and one round tells you exactly why. The design draws clear inspiration from Pine Valley — deep, punishing bunkers, tall pines, and forced carries that demand your full attention. At 7,227 yards it's a serious test, but five tee boxes mean you don't have to be a scratch golfer to have a great time. J…

What a course. The best I’ve played this year, and I’ve played a few great courses. In New Jersey make this course one to visit for sure! Immaculate conditions throughout. Some greens had some careless people not fix their pitch marks but other than that I cannot complain. Very hospitable staff too!

Very big and challenging golf course. There is some water and lots of bunkers. On mother's day moms play free... thank you so much Shore Gates, greatly appreciated.

Shore Gate is easily one of the nicest courses near the Jersey shore. Featuring undulating greens and fairways, with a terrific and interesting layout, this course will keep you coming back. Although it is not in eye-popping condition as it had been in the past years, it is still a sight to behold. When it is in top shape, you’ll feel like you walked into the TV during the PGA tour. Plenty of tee boxes (some very far back) maintain the championship course feel. The risk-reward design presents you with constant gambles, with deep sand traps galore. One hole is half sand trap. Some traps have th…

Had an amazing day at Shore Gate it’s unlike any other golf course in South Jersey. The golf course was in Phenomenal shape the greens were excellent and rolled true. The layout of the course makes it fun and challenging. I would say this is a must play for anyone visiting the Jersey Shore. The Staff was super helpful as this was our first time playing this Gem.

Shore Gate is a phenomenal public golf facility that harbors private club conditions. The greens were out of this world as they were fast, smooth and true. We played on a Sunday afternoon and they were still in excellent condition. Most public facility greens will get chewed up with footprints around the hole from the morning wave of players, but not Shore Gate!! They stayed smooth and true all the way through the afternoon and early evening!! As for the course, it is an amazing challenge with many teeing options. You will not get bored here at Shore Gate because each hole looks different and…

Course layout and conditions were good for the most part (some tee boxes were in rough shape). Where this course loses points for me is the staff. None of the staff appeared to want to be there and the ranger rushed us through the last three holes even though no one was waiting on us and our 4 some finished in 4.5 hours.

Starter told us pace of ply was important but like most public courses it isn’t. My son and I walked off after 15 holes, 4 hours into our round. Course was fine, but pace of play should be prioritized and it wasn’t today - I wouldn’t recommend playing here to anyone.

Crab grass, hole liners not sunken into the ground, nonexistent rough. This place reeks of neglect despite the $115 greens fee and constant play. The greens are well kept but average at best. I’ve seen this place go downhill over the past few years. Do yourself a favor, play somewhere else until they produce a $115 product or lower their greens fee.
