In summary

Newport National Golf Club is widely praised for its outstanding course conditions, challenging layout, and friendly staff, making it a top choice for serious golfers. The course is beautifully maintained, offering a variety of holes and a scenic setting. However, some visitors feel the high price does not match the current clubhouse amenities, and there are occasional complaints about strict policies and management behavior. The lack of a driving range and limited practice facilities are also noted as areas for improvement.

Nice golf course! Long and open; but you can still lose balls in fescue. Greens roll nice and fast; but are not punishing. Course is well maintained. No driving range, but there is a net next to practice green to hit few balls to loosen up. When it’s windy, which it mostly is, it gets tricky!!!

The establishment is honestly beautiful, but I’m giving this course one star because I overheard the older woman probably a manager or something speaking to her to two young employees so incredibly disrespectfully and honestly yelling at them. If I was those girls, I would honestly quit and find a better job. It seemed dead anyway and probably wasn’t making any money. That old woman needs to either find a new job or learn some respect and management skills because it’s disgusting and I’ll never put my business there again! Sad because it’s a beautiful course, shame on the old lady. Shame on th…

A fun challenging (eg several long par 4s from the forward tee) link style course. The course conditions were outstanding. We (3) were the second group to tee off and finished within 4 hours (thanks to the foursome in front of us who asked us to pass through after the front nine). The clubhouse, on the other hand, was pretty outdated. Also there is no flush restrooms after the front nine. I will have to keep that in mind the next time I come ;)

Very pricey, the clubhouse is small and a bit old, BUT, it was a first time experience for me and once you get onto the course you then say ok wow this is worth it. Immaculate conditions and the service was A1.

Gorgeous course with amazing conditions. Full layout with challenging target shots required. Only reason for only 4 stars is because the price didn’t match the clubhouse/amenities. 150$ for a round is what I paid. Club house is essentially a couple of trailers built together. No driving range and no practice bunker. One average sized putting green. Call me crazy but for 150$ I want to hit a bucket of balls before I play. Rumors are they’re building a new club house and 9 hole track. If that happens it’ll definitely be worth the price (assuming they don’t raise it much)

I played here July 30, 2025. Being a public course, I did not expect much. I am traveling but always take my clubs. Well was I surprised. Absolutely a championship course and maintained extremely well. Greens, tees, and fairways were beautiful. Has a wide variety of holes. Staff is great and friendly.. They are adding 9 more holes so will have 27. Moving into beautiful new club house very soon. I belong to 2 private clubs so I know golf courses. Loved it Loved it!

(Late Aug 2022) Only been a golfer for ~3 years but I could tell this course was well run and in fantastic shape. Definitely a slightly challenging course. Overall though, I really enjoyed playing here with my buddies who are all long-time golfers. Fantastic way to start a weekend in Newp

Beautiful golf course. Terribly inhospitable to public players and wouldn’t recommend. I played with a large group first thing in the morning. We stayed on pace of play the whole time and finished in four hours. As we were the first group, the ranger was on us, aggressively and demeaningly, throughout the round - sitting at our tee boxes, continually warning us to speed up. Conditions were terrible and there was NO backup on the course. That we played in 4 hours when we couldn’t see the fairway in front of us through the fog on the front 9 is actually impressive. If this is how you treat pub…

Great golf course in great shape. Play was a little slow, but the staff was super nice and course was in great shape. This was the first true rectangle shaped green I had ever seen so thought I would share.

Played the white tees. The wind was crazy. Glad I didn't play back tees because it would have been very difficult. Clubhouse needs work or better yet, a fresh start.
