In summary

Montauk Downs State Park Golf Course is highly praised for its beautiful and well-maintained layout, offering a challenging yet rewarding experience with its narrow fairways and strategic hazards. The course's scenic setting, abundant wildlife, and reasonable green fees, especially for New York State residents, make it a must-visit for golf enthusiasts. However, some visitors note that the check-in process can be cumbersome and securing tee times during peak months can be difficult, while a few have mentioned issues with staff demeanor and logistical inconveniences.

Montauk Downs is an amazing golf course that truly embodies Montauk. Pristine nature, abundant wildlife, and breathtaking sunsets make it a one-of-a-kind experience. The layout offers a fair but demanding test of golf. From the back tees, it becomes especially challenging, and when the wind picks up, it turns into a true measure of skill. Green fees are very reasonable, especially for NYS residents. Even if you’re not, this course is a must-play for anyone who appreciates great golf design. Just note — securing a tee time during peak months can be tough, so plan ahead.

Great golf course. We were there on a rainy day and had the course mostly to ourselves. It was a great design and very well maintained. The pro shop had a good selection of merchandise and they have a grill.as well for food.

Beautiful, well kept public golf course located in Montauk. Our group was blessed with a beautiful, warm November day out on the links. Greens were rolling and the fairways were healthy. Definitely a must play for any golfer visiting Montauk.

Good Golf Course. We had some bad weather but still had a good time. The course is tough, lost some balls. But the course was in good condition. Overall it was a good experience. Only complain is that you have to pay for golf and the cart in two different spots. It was just hilarious to me. The course is worth playing. Also they have an all time top ten golf logo in my opinion.

Overall amazing track. Fun and challenging layout, narrow fairways that punish a miss. Plenty of hazards to make you think through every shot. 20mph winds added to the fun!

Montauk Downs is another great New York State operated track. 18 holes on a Sunday at 12:03pm was $53 plus $21 for a cart. The recent renovations to the Pro Shop and Snack Bar were very nice, including some awesome photogaphy! Carts are brought to you at the starters booth, and their was even a club cleaning station! The course was really fun. Tee boxes, fairways, and greens were in great condition. Greens were rolling very nice. Sone of the bunkers were a little mucky, but most were in very good conition. There is danger all around, so accuracy is key. Overall, the course condition was on…

I played Montauk Downs and absolutely loved it! The course was in great shape, with a beautiful layout that was both fun and challenging Every hole had its own personality, and the coastal breeze made it even more exciting The staff were super welcoming, and the overall vibe was relaxed but professional Such a great place to spend the day I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Montauk!

Excellent pool especially if you have kids. Even if your hotel has a pool this is with a visit. There is a kids wading pool that is only 1’3” deep. Pool toys are available or you can bring your own. There are lounge chairs and giant umbrellas to provide a bit of relaxation to the parents. Also, it is watched over by a rotating slate of lifeguards. $7 entry for adults and free for kids under 6. What a bargain.

Beautifully kept, moderately long but challenging golf. Some narrow fairways, true rolling greens, great staff. The round took a while longer because of some slightly slow play, but the carts which have an excellent and helpful GPS which is controlled to give so much info including prompts to pick up the pace, distances and hints to target zones. Being a bargain and being a very golfer filled course, the extra time there was just fine. I want to play this course many more times!

Fantastic public course. Very difficult. Several iconic holes including the 200 yard “volcano” green par 3, hole 12. No red stakes anywhere so make sure to play provisionals when your ball may be lost or you will be forced to walk back in shame for stroke and distance

Course is in fantastic shape. (Played 7/8/23), 4.5 hrs. Fast greens and some very tall lush decorative grass. Most rough around the greens and just off the fairwars is cut down to keep pace of play. Drive it straight, length is not the game here. Be very careful on approaches and there is fescue bordering and behind many greens and along bunkers. Avoid trouble by laying back to the widest parts of the fairways. Some parts of rough just off the fairways is actually hardpan and you will get some nasty bounces into the trees if you're not precise with your shots.
