In summary

Island Hills Golf Club & Resort is frequently praised for its challenging and scenic layout, well-maintained greens, and beautiful setting, making it a popular choice for golf enthusiasts. The villas and accommodations receive high marks for comfort and convenience, and the staff, particularly the head pro, are noted for their exceptional service. However, some visitors have expressed concerns about the course's maintenance in certain areas, the closure of the restaurant, and inconsistent service, suggesting room for improvement in these aspects.

I was hesitant to play it due to no recent reviews, but I couldn’t be happier with the experience. The staff was very welcoming. Tee boxes: 10/10, fairways: 8/10, fringe areas and greens: 9.5/10. The greens rolled true and were almost perfect, even though they punched them about a week prior. If you’re in the area, I highly recommend playing here. I did think the price was just slightly high, but it won’t stop me from coming back every time I’m in town.

I play this place about once a year and have been for about 6-7 years. Reports of this place’s demise are exaggerated. Played in May 2025 and the course is in great shape. There are a few spots where you can tell it’s healing from disease (a few greens and fairways), but all in all is still well maintained. The layout is awesome and challenging, with some tight holes thru the trees, some open holes with elevation change, and some holes around water hazards. 17 is the signature hole that oversees Lake Champlain. When the tall grass grows out it’s a very beautiful course, and in Spring it’s a v…

A nice trek. Greens were in good shape, but the tee boxes could use some TLC. Overall, a very nice experience

1st time here, and it is a nice course. It is a 50.00 course at best. It was in rough shape. 18 was really bad, The restaurant is closed, and the snack bar is lacking. Probably will not come back

Went to play island hills the evening of 7/6/22 the course is in really rough shape.. I mean really rough shape. Tons of dead spots on fairways, greens and tee boxes have weeds on every hole.. No where near the kind of course that I remember, while it has been a few years since I’ve played here I don’t know what happened to this course. It honestly is very sad to see a nice track like this turn into a low grade course.. especially at the rates they charge, I really hope something is done about this ASAP. Probably won’t be back for a while.

A hidden gem that's being run into the ground by poor management and an overall lazy approach to hospitality. The bar, snack shop and kitchen are all unoccupied. I waited 20 minutes for someone to talk to me about a possible outing while a guest "watched the shop" until the pro finally returned. The course is up for sale and hopefully someone who cares will take over because this course could be a destination. Challenging and fun golf course! Very beautiful layout - well maintained. A great stay and play venue. We were a group of 16 guys from Illinois - stayed on site in the club's condo units. We had a ball. Will definitely be back next year. A great value.

My friends and I (12 total) came across Island Hills 5 years ago and it has hosted our annual golf trip every year since. The course has a great layout & the back 9 in particular is awesome. The villas on site are super nice, right next to 18 green, and perfect to host a large group of 8 - 16 people. On top of that, I can't say enough great things about the head pro, Mark. Dude is the best...super reasonable and goes above & beyond to take care of us. Place is a hidden gem. Only reason I hadn't posted a review earlier is because I wanted to keep it that way!

Tucked away in the midst of Michigan’s Amish country, midway between Chicago and Detroit, is Island Hills Golf Club & Resort. The 18-hole championship layout at Island Hills was designed by award-winning golf course designer and architect Raymond Hearn, who has taken this 220-acre tract of land and transformed it into a golf course masterpiece. Island Hills offers 18 of the most unique and scenic holes you’ll find in this part of Michigan; it also has five of the best finishing holes you’ll find anywhere in the state. Over the years, Island Hills has been selected by Golf Digest as one of the…
