In summary

Detwiler Golf Club is appreciated for its friendly staff and the potential of its course layout, with some visitors noting improvements in course conditions, particularly the greens. However, many reviews highlight ongoing issues with maintenance, such as neglected fairways, tee boxes, and bunkers, which detract from the overall playing experience. While the course shows signs of improvement under new management, it still requires significant attention to fully restore its former quality.

Great municipal course. They were working on some cart paths but it didn’t affect the course. Well-manicured, greens putted true. I fortunately was not in any bunkers but they did look a little rocky. Need a little work there. This was my first experience playing golf in Ohio and I’d play here again.

*******. May 30, 2025 update. ******* Very much improved since my last post. There is hope that course conditions can mend. The fungus disease plaguing the landing area on hole #4 has completely cured. The tee boxes on all the holes have fresh grass. The new mgmt company also appears to have adequate staffing. While all these improvements are very positive signs of course corrections, there's still work to be done to regain the status Detwiler once boasted 30+ years ago as one of the best public courses in the Toledo area. Looking forward to witnessing more improvements in the future. May 202…

Very sad to say that the course is in very bad shape. I love how friendly the staff is, but nothing in this course was playable except for the first few holes and the last. Some of them had greens with grass longer than the fairways. Some courses had no fairway at all due to either grass missing or grass as tall as roughs. None of the bunkers were maintained and some of them had bushes growing up. Although it's pretty cheap, there are many better places to play for $35. I will let you decide from the photos.

Played at Detwiler Golf Course today and the course was in very good shape! Greens were excellent and were fast but rolled very true and were great to putt! Fairways were pretty good as well. They were firm but NW Ohio is in a pretty significant drought right now so many courses are the same. Had not played at Detwiler in 30 years and the course has matured significantly but the course was in very good shape! We will come back and play this year and are considering moving our golf league out there next year if they have opening. It was a very enjoyable day because of the condition of the cour…

I used to play this course in a league around 2014. I loved the course and saw that it was on GolfNow for $16 with cart. I bought it without hesitation. Unfortunately, they are clearly having ownership problems and the course has gone bad. There are no fairways, grass trimmings everywhere, soaked greens, etc.. I hope this place makes it back to where it used to be, but right now please do not play.

Played a round here today and had an awful experience. Walked into the club house and when we walked up to the desk the old guy working the desk acted annoyed that we were there even though we had a tee time. Then, proceeded to tell us after we paid that we had to walk because they had no carts left(on a Wednesday afternoon). When we were on the 7th hole at 7:30 they went around and pulled all the pins. On top of all that the course is in terrible shape: greens are all brown and patchy, tee boxes with no grass, etc. Would not recommend wasting your money here.

Course is 2/5. Probably the worst golf tournaments I’ve played, no additional tournaments should be hosted here unless the course conditions improve. You nearly got car sick driving, regardless whether you were driving on the course or one of the many poorly maintained paths. One team that this scramble attracted had people who openly urinated on one of the greens in front of us. Scheduled two groups per hole on a shotgun start, even with ONLY six teams playing. The food included was pathetic and the beverages were expired. Complete rip off, terrible course, attracted obnoxious players. Do not…

Not even a 1 star. The city of Toledo should be ashamed of itself. This is one of the best courses around here and they let it get like this. Horrible

This once gem of the city has continued to decline year after year. It’s a shame that the city doesn’t send a little more funding their way. Every year I go back hoping to see improvements. Unfortunately the fairways, tee boxes and bunkers are highly neglected and in many places, unplayable. There were a few greens that were in great shape and rolled true and fast but the rest were bumpy and inconsistent.

Tried to book a tee time in a sunny Wednesday at around 6pm for 9 holes. The guy over the phone said can’t help you and hung up. It always seems like a run-a-round to play a city funded golf course… when it comes to course conditions, it’s just the luck of the draw. Maybe the rough is mowed maybe it hasn’t for 2 weeks (good luck finding a ball in there). Or maybe you have a look at the hole on the green maybe there’s a patch of dirt in the way? This property has so much potential but it’s most certainly mismanaged by the powers that be.

Today was a good morning teeing off at 7:48 in the morning. Peaceful greens were awesome little bit wet but still enjoyable. Detwiler is a nice course

After years of decline and in my opinion poor management the course is still one of my favorites. It still needs time to heal from years of neglect. Played recently and there is hope. The fairways need repair as do the tee boxes. The greens were in great shape and were very fast. I'll go back in hopes to see it continue to get better.
