In summary

The Virginia Tech Golf Course is generally praised for its well-maintained condition and beginner-friendly layout, making it accessible for players of all skill levels. While some visitors appreciate the helpful staff and reasonable pricing, others have expressed dissatisfaction with the staff's demeanor and strict enforcement of rules, which some find off-putting. Additionally, the course's policies and management practices, such as closely monitored play and early closure times, have been points of contention for several guests.

Update: Course was in really good shape and not many people playing. The people at the counter arent very friendly but it didnt bother me. Would still recommend! Original: The course is very nice and well maintained. Not too expensive either. Wide fareways and not many hazards so good for beginners to practice but can be challenging from the tips too. Only problem I had was the Marshall kept watching us play for a few holes. Don't think he had Ill intentions but a little awkward when someone is just watching us play. Definitely would recommend though, beautiful course!

Solid course, but very frustrating as a beginner to be rushed by staff. Tee times are only 10 minutes apart so be aware you will have problems if you are a slower player.

Take my rating with a grain of salt as I'm a newbie when it comes to golf and haven't been to very many courses - so I rated based on what I have experienced, plus what I've learned about other courses from people I know that have golfed far more than I have. It's a great course for beginners in my opinion. People follow the rules but don't take themselves too seriously so it's a very welcoming atmosphere for someone at my level of experience. The clubhouse is very very old but the workers have always been nice. The carts are nothing special but do the job! The prices are very reasonable all…

Staff are extremely rude and unaccommodating. Course is also overpriced for the quality in my opinion—played a muni last week that puts this course to shame for $10 less. Would not recommend ever playing here. Virginia tech needs to do something about the staff—it is unacceptable.

I have to echo all of the previous reviews. The course was in very good shape and the greens are really nice. The staff flat out does not want to be there and does not want you there. The Marshall follows you around the whole time. Accused me of having a beer in my hand. It was just an energy drink. They pull up the pin flags at 6:00 p.m as a way to tell you to hurry the hell up good luck finding the hole. They close at 7:00 and will not give you a cart to play 9 holes after 4:30 p.m. their rationale is they want the carts turned in before closing at 7:00 p.m I explained though I would be done…

Echoing other reviews. Course was really well maintained. Staff didn’t seem too crazy that we were teeing off later in the day ~5:15 or so. It was rather annoying that they pulled the flags - I think we had a flag for 3 holes or so. Had to hit a drive, walk ~150-200 yards, stand with a club in the air while others hit (or stick a club in the hole), walk 150 yds back etc. I’m working on getting clubs and was sharing with a friend - I’m glad they let us play but normally they wouldn’t if you don’t have your own clubs.

Course was well under maintained but it did rain the day before course martial after teeing off on a very slow Tuesday decided to tell my group we were too slow after looking for one ball for less then five minutes continued to follow us around spying on us for 3 hours coming up to us while smoking a cigarette saying that 7 people complained we were going to slow when there was probably less then 7 people on the course. She completely ruined the round and made it seem like we weren’t allowed to relax

The following is a statement from Virginia Tech and a complete lie: “Virginia Tech Department of Recreational Sports is dedicated to building and sustaining a community that fosters a culture where everyone from all abilities, identities and backgrounds have the opportunity to enrich their lives through movement”. We were rushed at every point completely ruining the experience, simultaneously stalling us. Secondly, they have a ridiculous policy making each player have their own bag. Rented a bag to satisfy their policy and just left it with them, so clearly that policy is ridiculous and a mone…

Frustrating experience. Showed up for our tee time and was told very sternly that we weren't allowed to play if everyone didn't have their own clubs. 2 friends are getting into the sport so I was introducing them. Never been to another course that had this kind of rule. No where is it posted on their website when we made the booking. Echoing the other reviews of staff enforcing rules like it's a PGA course when it's very much not that.

I have certainly enjoyed mine, my husband's and my son's time here at the VT Golf course. The course is beautiful and the employees are very helpful. So much so that I had my son take a few lessons from "Chris". She did a wonderful job teaching him the fundamentals of golf. Kudos!

Terrible course. Got yelled at 3 times. Got yelled at for wearing the wrong shirt. I’m coming in from out of town so I had to share clubs with my brother, got yelled at for that. Then they followed us the whole course and made us pour out our beers. Will never come again. Wasn’t even able to enjoy a game of golf, we weren’t even disrespectful at all.

I truly expected better of this place, the course is beautifully maintained and it is great for all players at any level. However, the course Marshall is blatantly disrespectful and has no regard for how to give people space, including during the times of Covid-19. Virginia Tech instills the best values in their students on caring and serving others and taking protective measures during covid. This Marshall approaches us without a mask in sight and tries to accuse of playing holes twice because I needed to go back to a green where I left my sand wedge. Then he proceeds to follow us for the res…
