In summary

Old Works Golf Course is widely praised for its unique design by Jack Nicklaus, featuring black slag bunkers and a scenic setting that incorporates the site's historical mining elements. Visitors commend the course's layout, fast greens, and the friendly, accommodating staff, along with the well-maintained clubhouse and restaurant. While most reviews highlight the course's excellent condition, a few mention a decline in maintenance over recent years, suggesting room for improvement in fairway and green quality.

We love Old Works! The course is in exceptional condition this last week of the season! All staff are on top of their game; working hard, friendly and helpful! Jack Nicholas can continue to be proud his name is associated with such a well run course and restaurant! Special shout out to the chef/ restaurant staff. We come for the golf and always stay for food + drinks. Best Wishes for continued success!

We played the front 9. As a new golfer… I was in above my head on this course. The black sand was like a magnet, I swear it. Even though the course was a bit intimidating as a very new golfer, it was a fun round. The greens were super fast, and the fairways were LONG!

What an incredible course...and experience! Played this course on Wednesday September 14 along my route to Ohio...my 191st course in a little over 3 years. The setting is so unique...a Superfund site made stunningly beautiful. The contrast of the immaculate greens and fairways with the black slag bunkers and waste areas...embraced by the surrounding hills make this course an amazing visual treat to play! Great layout with very large landing areas for your drive, with accuracy required closer to the green - the Nicklaus signature design. So much fun to play! Carts were very clean and well cared…

Black sand traps play so well! Maybe that says something about how I play. 🤔 The roll in the fairway is outstanding just watch out, will go left and right. Greens roll fast. Plenty of elevated shots, slopes and drops. I absolutely love the practice facilities. 3 practice goes to boot! This course won't disappoint.

We played this course a few years ago and it was beautiful, so we were excited to take our friends here on our recent trip to Anaconda. Unfortunately, this course has some of the worst conditions of any course we've played throughout our travels (and we've played at a lot of courses!). They should be embarrassed to be charging $109 for a round. One good thing was the awesome gal working in the pro shop. She was super nice, and very helpful when we checked in. Sad to see a nice course in such terrible condition.

Absolutely beautiful Golf Course, really gorgeous and scenic with amazingly plush fairways and greens. I especially loved the sparkling black (coal?) sand traps. We booked our tee time through a platform called Harvest Host, which allows for overnight parking with RV. ‘‘Twas truly an Awesome experience, course was in great condition!

Absolutely amazing course. Difficult at times but the old structures and history make it almost like a museum inside a golf course. There's water, elevated shots and the furthest tees are over 7200 yards. Also affordable for the evening rate with a cart. Loved this place

Great golf course in Anaconda. Bit out of the way but worth veering off the interstate for. Historic site of an old smelter with lots of cool walls and features built right into the course design. Amazing black bunkers and course is fun the play. Can be windy in the valley at times so be prepared.

This Jack Nicklaus designed golf course is built around an old mine and looks amazing. With stunning scenery and black slag (a by-product of smelting) in the bunkers. The course features 5 tees for varying lengths and difficulty, and a consistent mining theme is seen throughout the course. Lots of fun to play and a very nice course.

Course is fantastic. It was in great shape and the black sand is amazing. We had a guys trip with 4 foursomes and played 36 holes (18 holes twice) and the variety of hole design is great. There are elevation changes throughout the layout, but nothing too gimmicky. I wouldn’t say the course plays like a links style course but it has a style similar to one depending on the weather conditions. Tee shots are pretty forgiving while second shorts demanded more accuracy. Greens rolled good and took some adjustment figuring out the severity of the break. We started early and then playing through war…
