What People Say

In summary

Hilliard Lakes Golf Club offers a varied and strategic layout with challenging water hazards and scenic views, appreciated by many for its affordability and the friendly demeanor of some staff members. However, several visitors have expressed concerns about the course's maintenance, citing issues with muddy fairways and inconsistent greens, as well as reports of unprofessional behavior from certain staff members. Despite these drawbacks, the course remains a popular choice for its unique design and reasonable pricing.

Really friendly and professional staff and beautiful scenery but boy was it tough out there Plugged the green a couple times and fairways were pretty muddy. Really dig the layout and greens but conditions made it tough.

It was okay. The fairways were pretty filled with dirt and not really kept up with. The water was all nasty too - and smelled like death as you got close. The course was fun but the conditions could have been better for the cost of a round.

Have been to Hilliard Lakes many times and today was hoping for a decent round at a course, but this was one of the worst golf experiences I’ve had in years. The fairways were in worse shape than the rough—no exaggeration. You’d be lucky to find a lie that didn’t feel like you were hitting out of a patch of weeds. And the greens.. They were so long and slow they might as well have been fairways themselves. Zero consistency, zero maintenance. Just total neglect across the board. As for the starter, I don’t even know where to begin. He wasn’t just rude—he was aggressive, confrontational, and str…

Mom & Pop operation and no reinvestment since I was last here back in 1991. They will probably sell out to homebuilders in the near future. The staff does not make you feel like the course is a $50 a round course. Go to Legacy and you'll have a better experience. The rough was not cut, the greens was fuzzy and the fairways are high as well. It's amazing my son still shot a 75.

The reviews citing poor conditions and rude staff hold true. Even though it has only rained 1.44” in August, on 8/22 we played on a bizarrely wet course where 100 yard pitching wedges would plug in the green in the middle of the day (see photo). Many fairways were dirt and weeds. At the turn, we went in for a quick bite. I asked the bartender “do you have dogs ready?” He looked at me sternly and said “I just gave this guy one…what do you think?” To which I said no thanks and walked out the door. Oh well…still beats a day of work.

The course is in horrible condition. . Lil Augusta???? What a joke. So many golf course options, eliminate this course from the list. The starter had an unpleasant attitude with every golfer trying to enjoy a round of golf. It’s absolutely no wonder why the course attendance was sparse. With this starter as the face of the club, the owner should resume his attempt to sell the property before attendance drops to zero. I rate the starter a ZERO and the course a 1 out of 10.

My tee time was at 10:57 it’s 11:01 and there’s still 12 people on the box. Horribly run place. Also refused to let us go off the back.

This is a nice golf course hidden in Westlake. It’s reasonably priced and well-kept. We love to go there, but we never think about because it’s off the beaten path. We played yesterday to get a late summer game in and glad we had a tee time because they were pretty full. Has a fair amount of water hazards, and sand traps and not being great golfers we did lose a few balls, but that’s the fun of the game.

My friends and I are so incredibly disappointed in the course management today. You abruptly "closed due to the conditions of the course" when I called standing at the gate. Yes, weather can play unexpected tricks. However, it was RUDE and inconsiderate not to contact me and other customers who made tee times, as I called for 2 tee times weeks ago. In addition, we drove upwards to 45 minutes one-way looking forward to play, only to be welcomed by a CLOSED gate at 9:25 am.

Very nice golf course. It is called " Little Augusta." It has its challenges with trees and water. The course is relatively short. However, trees, creeks, and ponds could mess up your day. Clubhouse staff are very nice and friendly. I recommend this course if you're planning a company tournament.

If I could rate this golf course even lower, I would I had a terrible experience golfing here all staff members were really rude. We had seven people, but two different teetimes. We started golfing and we ended up catching up with another group in front of us and then a group behind us started nagging because we had seven people yet we were still keeping pace, and the group behind us extremely disrespectful we ended up getting kicked out even though we were keeping pace and the park manager guy told us to leave for no reason I will never be coming to this course again we were golfing with peop…

It's a fun enough course, and you can see the potential with the layout as it offers lots of strategy off the tee. But, the course could afford to remove/trim about half the trees on the property. The trees overtake a lot of the holes and hide the holes' features. For example, the par 5 6th is a nice looking par 5, but you can't even see where the fairway begins from the tee box as it's all blocked out by trees. Lots of potential but ultimately frustrating to play as it's overgrown.
