In summary

Henry Stambaugh Golf Course, a historic municipal 9-hole course in Youngstown, is praised for its well-maintained condition, affordability, and friendly staff. Golfers appreciate the challenging layout, particularly the long 8th hole, and the course's suitability for both practice and introducing new players to the game. While many enjoy the value and atmosphere, some visitors have noted issues with slow play and lack of enforcement of golf etiquette.

For an older municipal 9 hole course it was a pleasant surprise. It was a bargain at $17 for 9 holes and a cart. The course was in very good shape considering the lack of rain the last few weeks. Fairways were cut tight. The greens rolled fairly quick, and at 3,299 yards for 9 holes from the tips it provided plenty of challenge. The par 5, 8th at 601, even though down hill, still requires 3 solid shots to reach the green. Service in the clubhouse and starter was friendly, and the mtce folks working on the course were curteous. My only suggestion would be to trim back 1 very large tree on ho…

My favorite municipal course. I purchased the veteran's membership and play as often as I can. There is a new pro and the course is in good shape. A few greens need work. There are some charming and challenging holes including the 605 yd 8th. Local tip, play the 9th from the tee box in the way back and you get another incredible play. Arnold Palmer played here often, so that says something. The staff are very friendly. The food is limited to hot dogs and microwavable fare, with no grill. There's no bar, but you can purchase alcoholic beverages M-Sat. By far the best bang for the buck.

The course is in great shape and cheaply priced. It's attracting too many people. The rangers don't enforce anything and golf etiquette does not exist at Stambaugh. If you enjoy playing behind 6-somes, random people just jumping Infront of you, waiting on old timers dropping 10 balls in your fairway just before you tee off or people intentionally hitting into you, this is the course for you.

No one was there to open the course . Waited 30 minutes then left. Edit 1- I can completely understand your reasons for not opening. We played down the street at Mahoning and it was a mess. My frustration is that there is not signage stating you are not opened. The only sign indicator is that you open April 1st. It would be nice to have an indication starting something along the lines of the flags not being out that you’re not open.

Can't believe it took me 20 yrs before I played here. Course is in great shape. Hole #8 is long, but downhill. #9 plays long as it's uphill. Staff are great. Price is great!!

Gem of a course for the money. Know what you're getting into, but it's a great course to walk, and in great shape. It's a 9 hole muni. Great to work on your game or introduce the youngsters.

Cheap golf and a challenging course for a guy that is terrible at golf! Me and my buddy love this course because it's open and gives back to the city of ytown. Free walk and play after 6 is a bonus!
