In summary

The Robert Trent Jones Golf Club at Cornell University is appreciated for its classic design and challenging greens, with staff generally described as welcoming and helpful. However, many visitors express disappointment with the course's maintenance, particularly the poor condition of bunkers and fairways, and note that the course is not well-marked. While some find the layout enjoyable, others feel the course's upkeep does not justify its higher price point.

I really enjoyed my round here. After seeing all kinds of reviews my expectations were mixed. Hopefully this will help others who fancy playing this course. (I belong to an RTJ club in NY which is impeccably kept and play off 3). Pro was very welcoming and suggested its a good walking course, so I walked. I'm 54 and I enjoyed my walk greatly. Grass range is long and well kept. There's a small chipping and bunker area and two putting greens to warm up on. The course is a nice layout and I particularly liked the greens among trees 11, 12 and 18. Par 3's were all interesting. The greens aren…

Great course and very good staff. Greens are very challenging and in great condition. My only complaint is that the course is not marked well and the bunkers on the back -9 are very poor.

I was very excited to play here, but it was super dissapointing. The tee boxes were in rough shape, sand traps hadn’t been maintained in years, no ball washers, and no sand on the carts to repair divots. The fairways and greens were decent enough, but I expected much more from Cornell’s golf course. Andy Bernard would have been embarrassed by the shape of this course.

Very disappointing. Because it's at the higher end of prices in the area, was expecting a premium experience, but the first cut was so long that balls a yard off the fairway disappeared completely, leading to frustrating search for shots that should be totally obvious. A previous reviewer noted that the directional marking is not great--that's true. If you don't know the course it's too often time-consuming to figure out where the next tee box is. And the back 9 didn't have a single useable bunker--every one completely washed out.

I wasn’t necessarily expecting the TPC here, but this was the most unpleasant golf course experience I’ve ever had. We were told the range was open until dark, but we turned up at 6 and the ball dispenser was closed. We practiced some short game, but the green was in rough shape and the sand trap was half flooded and half packed dirt. I had a few range balls in my bag so we decided to hit those when a guy rolled up to tell us the range was closed… at 6:50pm!! I can’t believe that no one wants to play after work. Also, the range is turf and you can’t tee up… no practice on the driver? This was…

As a great man once said "it was the best of times, it was the worst of times"! Let's begin with the best, the course is a truly classic design. The layout is beautiful, the greens are among the largest I have ever played in my 50 plus years of play. For the majority of greens they are in excellent condition. Now the not so nice, the bunkers, which are well located each and every one fairway and greeside are in horrible overgrown condition, no sand. They are totally unplayable. Either Cornell is ready to embark on a total reconstruction or they have abandoned them! The Fairways are ok but many…

Two holes were closed down, not notified before arriving and the majority of sand traps are unplayable. Everything is lifted place. $55 for a walking around is ridiculous here at the current shape of the course.

The fairways and greens were in good shape. The bunkers were not even bunkers. I though the sand in the bunkers were being allowed to be something “native” given other no mow initiatives seen around Cornell but apparently they just went to pot during Covid. The bunkers were super disappointing. Greens feed should be less given the condition of the bunkers. That being said it does appear they are trying to bring the quality of the course back up in terms of fairways and greens.

It’s a shame this course has not been maintained. We were excited to play a Robert Trent Jones course but were shocked at the conditions of the fairways and rough. Sand traps were overgrown with weeds and had no sand. Thought an Ivy League school would have taken better care of this course.

Usually RTJ courses are bland but this course was fun to play. The greens are large with slope but the speed was perfect for them. They are also firm so unless you are a low handicapper you have to land the ball short of the pin. There were some bare patches near some greens and some bunkers had grass growing in them. Overall though conditions were good.

Disgraceful! This course has no business using the Robert Trent Jones name. Fairways are below municipal golf quality. Sand traps are unplayable and there is no warning on the web site. Cornell did not maintain course for over a year during covid and it shows. I was embarrassed to host a group of friends from out of state here. We won't be back.

Only used the driving range as we were actually playing in a tournament at an adjoining course. Staff were welcoming and helpful. Apparently, they are in the process of returning the course to it's original design. Can't wait to see how it turns out.
