In summary

Mark Twain Golf Course is widely praised for its well-maintained greens, challenging layout, and scenic setting, with many appreciating its historical significance and value for money. The staff is generally described as friendly and helpful, contributing to a positive experience. However, some visitors have noted issues with the condition of sand traps, occasional slow pace of play, and a few concerns about customer service in the pro shop.

Beautiful greens on this course! It's hilly, so you'll want to get a cart unless you're fit. It's pretty open, so if you're an errant hitter, you don't have to fear losing a lot of balls! The view is nice, with the tall hills serving as a backdrop. The only thing I don't care for: those gas golf carts (noise, exhaust).

The golf course is fun and playable, but the distance gap between the white tees and the golds is a little too wide. Greens were in very nice shape when we played in early August. The old guy in the pro shop was grumpy and rude. His first words to us were "You're late," even though we were a few minutes early and still teed off right behind the group that had the tee time before us.

The wide open fairways, nicely manicured greens, and the fact that it was created by the WPA during the Great Depression made it a joy to play on for this former history teacher.

Enjoyed my return home and a loop around the 18 holes here. My son joined me and was terribly imprssed with the conditions of the greens on this city course. Don't miss it.

Fun course but it’s ridiculous that they charge kids under 12 to golf. They receive state funding as a “state park”. For example, they received $2M for Covid funds in 2023, but my Kid has to pay $20 to play 9 holes.

Nice course! Greens tough and tricky reads. Very few qualified for any type of bump and run! Gr8 day!

The Mark Twain course in Elmira, NY is a fabulous golf course. It's very well maintained and is quite challenging. There's hardly any water on the course but they make up for that with a lot, A LOT of sand traps. Be prepared for lots of hills even on the greens, 😉. The staff is very friendly as was everyone I met while playing. I highly recommend playing Mark Twain. It's a very memorable course...

Tee boxes were level and thefairways well maintained. The rough was challenging but not overly so. Bunkers were hit or miss from what I saw. Greens rolled true and FAST. I was really impressed with the greens. Played the tips and it was decently long challenging but fair. I used all my clubs. A couple scorable par 5s and a couple long iron to hybrid length par 3s. Par 4s we're mostly around 400ish yards. Club house is small but who cares, the real action is on the course. Pace of play was slow on a weekend morning which is unfortunately typical of most nice courses. Would certainly play again…

Very challenging greens. Many false fronts and not many straight putts. Fairly wide fairways, but rough was long and penalizing. Sand traps were in rough shape. I think they had plenty of storms recently, so I assume they are not that bad all the time. Definitely worth playing and very affordable.
