In summary

Island Valley Golf Course is appreciated by some for its informal and laid-back atmosphere, making it a suitable option for beginners and those looking to enjoy a casual round of golf. The course is noted for its short layout and challenging par 3s, which can be engaging for newer golfers. However, there are significant concerns regarding the course's maintenance, with reports of poor cart paths and greens, as well as negative interactions with the owner, which have deterred some visitors from returning.

Perfect course if you love informality, easygoing camaraderie, and relatively forgiving open spaces. If you're looking for something by Robert Trent Jones, look elsewhere. if you're looking for a good time with good friends and not a whole lot of golf pressure, check this place out.

Edit: updated to reflect current conditions of the course (terrible) and staff (rude). I used to recommend this one, but simply can't after our most recent visits. Use to be great little course that's a nice option for beginning golfers, kids, or golfers that want to work on their short game. Overall, the length of the course is fairly short, and most holes won't require a driver, but the layout is fun, hole design is varied with a couple of really entertaining par 3's, and aside from a couple of low lying areas that take until early summer to completely dry out, course conditions are usually…

The best kept golf secret in Rochester. The owner rocks and the course is in great shape. We made it an annual pilgrimage to play there and played 3-4 times last summer. A great place to learn and be challenged.

Great course with friendly staff. Perfect place to try out the game for the first time or get in a quick 9 holes. It was my first time golfing in 7 years and I took along with me two people from work that have never golfed. We had a great time and will certainly be back.

The course was in better shape than I expected or remembered from years ago. While short by most standards it still offers a challenge and is great for newer golfers. Great value! I definitely will be back soon!

One of the worst golf courses I’ve ever went too. Paying is hard and a pain, the roads are extremely dangerous to drive carts on. The fairway is just mowed grass, and the greens are not well kept. The worst part was when we were driving a golf cart with 3 people to get our balls, the “owner” kicked us out with no warning after mentioning my yamika, and saying “we don’t serve these kind of people” Very unprofessional, and i feel like I got screwed out of my time golfing with friends. Never going here again.

For the price you have much better options in the general area. I used to like to play here with my step-son for it was a track he could learn on but after an interaction with the owner I haven’t been back since. The reasoning was absurd… he had a sign showing “carts this way,” to which I abided by it, and got subsequently screamed at. At this time I needed to also pay him (You typically square up on the course when he finds you) so I asked if he would be giving me a discount for incorrectly yelling at me, to which he advised he’ll “Yell at me for free!” I paid him his overpriced $54 or whate…

This is a fun little 'executive' 9 hole course. Several par 3s are extremely short, which adds an interesting challenge. The greens are a bit rough in spots but not too bad. For the cost it is hard to beat, and I'll always love this little, fun, gem just outside Fairport.

$26 for 9 holes w/cart is ridiculous. Carts are seconds from death. I’ve been on better hiking trails than the “cart paths.” Two thumbs down. We didn’t even finish the round.

This is barely even considered a golf course; it is essentially open land where someone cut grass really short in a circle to make a green. Get ready to go for a short hike on hole 5 as you walk up an uneven dirt patch that is too small for a cart and too steep for a push cart. If you’re driving a cart, make sure to bring a helmet and full body armor as the path is so uneven after hole 6; one wrong move and you’re tipping the cart and falling down a steep drop off. The greens are as short as you’d expect the fairway to be, and the fairway is worse than a lawn that hasn’t been mowed in a month.…

Challenging 9 hole course that will test your skills. Bring extra balls if you are intimidated by trees in close proximity. I love playing a quick game here at least 2 or 4 times a year. The owner is really friendly. Bring your own food, the operation is run out of shed. Cheap to boot!

We usually go to Island Valley for the laid back (no pressure) atmosphere. For the same reason most people do? My daughter joined me today, she doesn't golf at all, but wanted to hang out... noone at the Shed to check in with. But we signed in and went on our way. On the second hole the guy working chased us down to see if we paid. (Totally understandable.) But gave me a hard time that I didn't pay an extra fee for her to ride with me. (I said I'd pay that) "no it's okay this time." At the end of the round the same guy told me that she needed to be 21 to drive the cart, and to not let her driv…
