In summary

Charlie Vettiner Golf Course is appreciated for its challenging layout and friendly staff, with some visitors noting that the course is in decent shape, especially considering its status as a public course. However, several players express concerns about the condition of the greens and fairways, as well as the slow pace of play due to closely scheduled tee times. While some find the course to be a good value, others feel the pricing is too high given the current maintenance issues.

I enjoyed playing here. There is certainly some rough patches but nothing I wouldn’t expect for a public course with eighteen holes. I would agree this is not as well kept as ten years ago, but that’s pretty much on par for all the public courses in Louisville I’ve been on. Plenty of opportunities to challenge you here, as well as some really easy ones where they are doing maintenance to try and improve. I would play here again.

Worst public course in Louisville after being one of the best 5-10 years ago. Don’t cut the grass, idk what the greens are even supposed to be, they let groups of 6-8 play with eachtoher, takes 5-6 hours for a round of 18. Should be nowhere near $45 for a round of 18. They should pay you to play here.

Nice course, not busy the day we played. Couple of holes under repair, but not a big problem. It was well maintained and clean.

$46 for 18 when half the greens are grey or brown and have more sand than grass. Every group is waiting on the group ahead of them or hoping they don’t get hit into because tee times are 7-8 minutes apart. The starter not only put a random single into our 3 person and made us share a cart (after giving out 3 keys) when there were plenty available, but also started another twosome ahead of us as we’re making the turn. Absolute joke even for a public course

3 hours for 9 holes! Sitting 3 groups deep on every tee box. Absolutely ridiculous play. There is no reason to start groups this close. 12:00 tee time and may not even be able to finish today. Course is in good shape, for November, but that doesn't even matter if it plays this slow.

April 29th - Charlie is on the come back. Metro Parks notified me the 12th and 17th greens were temporarily closed. These greens looked great and ready for play in a couple weeks. They did discount the round which was great. They’ve been working hard on the course in the fall and spring! Tee boxes were in decent shape, fairways as well. Some clover through the fairways. Greens were hairy with some bad spots. But rolled great! Course will be great this summer. Pro Shop staff was great. I will be back again soon!

Played the first weekend of October. For the price, we couldn't complain at all. A little slow from the groups in front of us, but nothing to make us call the clubhouse over. The course is in great shape and we will gladly play again when we pass through Louisville.

What happened!!!! Worst greens ever . Green are in just horrible conditions. Dirt and crabgrass. Maybe will consider playing in 2026. Parks dept has let this course go. So sad.

Some of y'all in the reviews are spoiled when it comes to courses, and it shows 🫢 I put off coming to this course for so long because of these comments, but finally bit the bullet this weekend and decided to form my own opinion since y'all said Sun Valley was so bad, and it's not! Anyway, if you don't come here expecting Valhalla fairways and greens, and know full well this is a PUBLIC COURSE, it's totally fine. Fun even. It's challenging, but not so much that a beginner can't navigate. Pace of play and openness was fantastic! So, as a matter of fact, y'all stay away so I can KEEP having the p…

Will never go back again. They stack tee times so close together you are literally on top of each other. Totally unreasonable to make tee times so close that you hit into the group in front of you and the group behind is always waiting or hitting in to you. Some of the rudest golfers I have ever experienced! On out tee time there was already someone waiting to hit behind us. We decided to be polite and let them go first. A few holes later the group behind us complained to management, not us, and we let them play through. Then we started playing as a scramble. The group behind is constantly kep…

To the recent reviews that say the courses greens are in great shape. They are straight lying. Majority of the greens are mostly sand. Cups are overdue for a change and half of them are not placed deep enough. Fairways have a ton of dead spots. Course condition is terrible. With that being said the course layout is very nice and it is very challenging. With better greenskeeping this would be a very fun and difficult course. Not worth the rate in its current state

Good public course. I enjoyed the layout. Not a course where every hole is challenging. Greens were in great shape but the fairways were dry and hard (early October). Lots of divots that weren't fixed on greens. Five hour + round. Driving range, or lack there of, left a lot to be desired. Staff was great though.
