In summary

Stephen F. Austin Country Club is appreciated for its beautiful setting, abundant wildlife, and well-maintained course, offering a challenging layout that many golfers find enjoyable. The staff is generally described as friendly and accommodating, and the course provides good value for its scenic views, especially along the Brazos River. However, some visitors have experienced issues with the course's condition, particularly with certain greens and holes under renovation, and have noted concerns about the pricing, lack of water on the course, and occasional staff attitude.

This course, for me, is my favorite because it is very well taken care of and always green (I've played over a handful in the Houston area). The hardwoods, the peacefulness, the amount of deer you get to see out and about. The staff is always so friendly. It's worth the drive out there.

Minus the two new holes they're redoing, the course is in excellent shape. Greens are great on the back nine, fairways are in decent shape, layout is fun and challenging at times. I'd play there again. Played again late May and the greens were a butt rougher but still a great deal.

Beautiful course. Little pricy. No water on the course. Lodge is nice with clean bathrooms. Hotdogs a plus!

Great golf with amazing scenery and abundant wildlife. Bordered by a state park and the Brazos river...it's hard to find a better bang for the buck in the greater Houston area.

Went on the day of my birthday and never even started literally just walked in paid and realized how bad the bugs were, I asked if I could get a refund (didn’t plan on coming back to the course.) she told me I could get a rain check. (I live north of the woodlands.) She wrote it on a sticky note and well sticky note is long lost! Terrible service and terrible attitude. I paid for 2 rounds for myself and +1. Hoping to see if someone could make this right.

The golf course is or was in excellent shape, but the rains have had there affects on it. I’m sure once it’s back up they will have in tip top shape. Very nice people. Can’t wait to see y’all again. We are ready.

Great recovery for the course helped make a fun round. The deer were not bothered by our game!

You'd be hard pressed to find a prettier place. Herd of deer ran through the 14th fairway! I didn't play it but walked it with my daughter who was in a tournament. 2 of the greens are jacked up, but it's because they are new holes. Other than that, the course was in outstanding shape. The greens are pretty small, so bring your "A" game for sure. Not a long course to play but a pretty decent walk for sure. The only negative thing would be the gnats...bring some spray to keep them from ruining your day. We have these same gnats at our home course, but this is really early for them!

The course recently opened after being ravaged by the Tax Day flood and then Harvey. This is first review since they reopened. The course currently is a work in progress as they have not placed hole markers nor added a permanent club house. The course open house was coming soon so check their website for an update. On the positive side, they reworked and improved many of the tee boxes and moved/added some greens. The fairways were in good shape and I always like how they mow and maintain under the many pecan trees that line many if the fairways. The driving range was regraded and in good sha…

They did a great job of redesigning the back 9. Used their imagination and ran with their strengths as several of the tee-boxes sit on the banks of the Brazos river and is beautiful and dramatic. It is now a par 70 course. Perfect as a couple of par 3s are long, 2 are medium distance and one is relatively short. They sell beer and we saw lots of wildlife. Totally a great experience. We will be back soon.

Great little golf course in the heart of Brazos country. One of the holes, I think 12, was under renovations due to recent flooding of the Brazos, so we only played 17 holes. However, for it's location and small staff, it's a nice little spot to shag some balls with your friends and family. Will be back next time I am in town!

Our experience was miserable and on a beautiful day. The course, itself, is in decent condition and is fun to play but greens are bumpy and grain is a huge factor. The greens appear to have never been rolled. It is NOT a course designed for a long hitter and the yardage from the back tee box is only 6000 yards. Not a problem if you don't mind hitting irons and hybrids from the tee through most of the round. This is NOT a $50 weekend rate course. If possible, try to find coupons online...especially if driving a distance. But overall, the problem is the staff. Our tee time was at 2:00 pm and w…
