In summary

The Hotchkiss School Golf Course is praised for its scenic layout and well-maintained greens, offering a unique experience as it winds through a school campus. Golf enthusiasts appreciate the course's historical design by Seth Raynor and the friendly staff, making it a worthwhile visit, especially for those interested in golf course architecture. However, some visitors mention issues with drainage and navigation, as well as less impressive turf conditions in certain areas.

Very interesting course that winds through the school property. Some of the fairways are rough, but the greens are in great shape. Definitely a test, especially the first time through.

One of the few Seth Raynor-designed courses available to the public, it's a gem, although many of the formerly magnificent greens have been significantly reduced. Imagining what it once was makes it well worth a stop if you're a golf course architecture buff.

I've played this course for 50 plus years. It is a gem. The school keeps it in terrific shape and this was not always the case. Rated 27 of the top 100 9 hole courses in the world. That says it all.

This course is a "must play" for avid golfers. (Hackers will have great trouble with holes #1 and #9). The gentlemen in the "pro shop" were the best. The course layout is intriguing; each hole unique, great fun, and challenging. Greens in perfect condition and designed with difficulty in mind. Played with a local gentleman and he said the course was "in great shape due to all the rain". Course was in very good condition. Expect "closely mowed crabgrass and clover" in many spots. This does not affect playability. Thank you Hotchkiss for the access to such a fun course!!

Compact 9-hole course running through the school campus that’s open to the public. Fantastic views of the nearby lake but the drainage is poor, so it’s not great after a rainstorm.

Really fun course, beautiful views. A bit scary traversing the course in a cart - very hilly and sometimes hard to see where the hole is.

Just recently found out this course is open to the public. It's a great little course. Other than the first hole. It is not a very long course, but there is a lot of well maintained bunkers. You can easily walk, and the scenery is great. Green's fees are quite reasonable. It's a fun course. My buddy and me like it so much we got memberships for next season.

My friend and I played 18 yesterday and loved the course.Has a great layout and so many beautiful views and the gentleman in the shop couldn’t be any nicer, he was so personable and made you feel like you were home. We are going to play there many more times this year and are going to be members there as soon as next seasons starts. Thank you for making a great day for us.👍🏌️

I was a member at Yale GC and drove up for the chance to play another Raynor course in the state. The course was not very interesting, nor well maintained. Turf conditions are poor, as are bunkers. It was worth the $15 I paid but not the $30 in gas. There is a tiny clubhouse and friendly attendant. The routing is not clear and poorly marked, especially where it crosses the road. You have to walk down Sharon Road for a 1/2 mile to get from the second hole to the third, it’s not marked and about half the holes are bordered by streets. There are some terrific views of a lake on holes 6 and 7. I…

Nice course to play. Jim in the shop is great and the views from the course (particularly autumn) are very scenic. New players, just be aware that you are literally playing through the campus of the school. It's therefore important to be mindful and respectful of the students and faculty, while you're there.

This 9 hole course was designed by the same guy the designed Yale and you can see that with some of the greens and green-side features. It's kind of wide open and nondescript from tee to green, but still worth playing if you are passing through this corner of CT. The guy in the pro shop was very friendly and helpful and you can't beat the price. A great course to walk on a fall day. Just BYOEvertthing as there is no place to buy food or drinks.

The course was in fine shape for Memorial Day. The greens were challenging, and Jim the Pro, was very friendly.
