In summary

Green Woods Country Club is often praised for its well-maintained and challenging 9-hole course, friendly staff, and excellent dining options, particularly the Thanksgiving buffet. However, some visitors have reported negative experiences with the staff, particularly regarding interactions with children and the driving range, which has impacted their overall impression of the club.

Thanksgiving dinner (reservation ahead of time) including dessert for under $30 can't be beat if you're not doing a big family dinner.

Went for the driving range. Owner was hostile and aggressive. Came down to yell at us for teeing off the grass in front of the turf (which was within the roped boundaries) so we assumed it was fine as there was already craters in the area from other people doing the same and no sign saying otherwise. Owner was condescending and rude saying the area was just seeded and proceeded to mock us for not knowing so (even though as previously stated the area had craters from other golfers teeing off). Also was given a bucket with broken/cracked balls mixed in. If you want a relaxing fun golf experience…

Less than 0. Took my very well behaved 5 yo son over the weekend (to ride in the cart only, and not golf) during public golf hours. The woman behind the counter looked at my son as if she just saw a monster, then Proceeded to tell me that the members up there “don’t like kids”, then asked us to leave. she’s always rude and nasty to anyone who’s not a member. If you’re going to treat the public like this, You should go back to full private. It’s a 9 hole semi private course. Stop acting like you’re running the Greenwich scholar society. Have some fun ppl life is short. Went down the road to eas…

If there was a thumbs down, negative star option that’s the one I would choose. I’ve never seen such rude staff at a public entity in my entire life. A good friend of mine went out to have some father son bonding time this weekend during public hours. ( hard to believe this place was ever private with how many members they are losing each year.) His five-year-old who is very mature and well behaved for his age was going to ride along in the cart with him, with no intentions of actually playing any golf, slowing down pace, etc. Standing at the counter, the lady behind the desk, proceeded to lou…

A friend of mine this past weekend headed out for an afternoon round of golf with his 5 y/o son who has been very excited for and waiting very patiently for the day he could go golfing with his dad. Well the day had finally come where dad thought his son was mature enough to ride in cart (not golf and possibly slow down play). All excited they walked into the club house where they were greeted by a very rude and upset woman behind the counter. The woman proceeded to say in front of the child that children aren’t welcome by the members here. Mind you there are no signs that say no children allo…

Was told at the course that greenwoods country club doesn’t like kids enjoying the course or even riding along with their dad. Worst part about the experience is it was all said right in front of the 6 year old. I wouldn’t play this course if they paid me to come back.

Unfortunately had to witness a very embarrassing situation unfold. A young man wanted to bring his child with him on the golf course. Mind you this kid had to have been 5/6, not like he was a screaming toddler. And the woman berated this man and was WAY too loud/aggressive stating members don't like kids. I understand an establishment having the right to refuse anyone but at least have some class and be cordial or put out minimum age signs. The man was just trying to spend time with his kid outdoors. The few times I've played here everyone has warned me about the rude staff, I've noticed they'…

Wish I could give 0, I went with my nephew to drive some balls and the owner drove down screaming at us hostile and aggressive because we were driving off the grass area in front of the turf which is within the boundaries that were roped off. Tees did not go deep enough into the turf and seeing the already existing craters in the grass we assumed that the grass was for hitting the balls. If this is the owner they should be fired immediately and if it is not the owner he should sell the place because he obviously is in over his head.

For the area there are courses that are less expensive and just as nice. The staff was very nice, the place was very nice. Greens were fast, fairway were nice, just was not the course for me. It is a 9 hole course, seemed at points a little narrow and had to hit very straight, it was quite a challenging course. Actually it was a very challenging course, and had some crazy slopes, maybe would play again once in a while

Hidden gem on the border btwn Torrington and Winsted. 10 hole golf course, #5 is a tough par 4, #14 is an even tougher par 5. Course is always in super shape, friendly staff, Gia does a tremendous job in the kitchen. Play this course once, and you will come back for more!!
