In summary

The Jewel Golf Course at the Grand Hotel is frequently praised for its beautiful views, unique layout, and well-maintained grounds, offering a memorable golfing experience enhanced by a horse-drawn carriage ride between the front and back nines. The staff is often highlighted for their friendliness and helpfulness, contributing to the overall positive atmosphere. However, some visitors express dissatisfaction with the high prices, course maintenance issues such as dead spots, and occasional mismanagement of equipment, which detract from the experience for some guests.

Course was decent. My complaint has to do with our booking of our tee time. We booked on the website. Said the later rounds were much cheaper. We assumed it was because tourism slows on the island towards night time. So we booked 18 holes for $50 a piece. We proceed to the course and were charged a much higher amount. With 6 drinks, our price was almost $200. We then ask our cart attendant how we proceed to the back 9. We are then told that your tee time must be before 1 to play the back 9. Why were we able to book 18 online at a cheaper price, but forced to pay more and play half the amount?

Beautiful course. Very well kept. Great staff. Prices are high but what I would expect for a course such as this one.

Views are beautiful, the course itself was underwhelming. Front nine was full of goose poop. And I mean full!

Kind of an okay course. Did not appreciate the mismanagement of my clubs and the following unacknowledgement that an issue occured. I left my clubs with the staff post round to transport back to the city where I was assured the clubs would be safe. When I returned to pick up my clubs, a club was missing! In attempts to contact the course they assured me this never happens and I must have left it in the course. A week later and I am still waiting to hear back from them. Thanks for making me buy a new club, I really needed that

Wow..gorgeous views, in great shape. Very challenging. Very cool taking the horse and carriage from the front 9 to the back 9. Ashley and Olivia were absolute gems at the pro shop, 2 incrediblely sweet and bubbly employees making it a very welcoming experience.

I was hit in the head by a golf ball and then the horse stomped on me twice.

One of the most unique golfing experience ever! The front 9 is very historic and tight but features one of the prettiest holes I ever played #7 par 3 with lake view. The back nine after your horse-drawn carriage ride for a mile or so to the top of the island the back 9 is more open and a lot more yardage with beautiful tree lined fairways. It is very peaceful but you will also have planes fly over you during your round since it's near little airport. After your round The Woods Restaurant where the back 9 pro shop is located is incredible.

Been golfing at The Jewel since I was a kid (almost 30 years) and it was always one of my favorite spots…until this year. Prices have never been higher while the quality has never been lower. Dead spots all over the course, including the greens. Old cup marks everywhere, often disrupting putts. You can golf some of the best and most pristine courses in MI for half what the Jewel now costs. Still a fun setting and nice views, but bummed to see the course itself deteriorate to this level.

Not a tough course, but a good relaxing time. Expensive and only 5600 yards.

It's a great experience, expensive but well worth it. Hotel is all inclusive. Service is excellent, food is ok. It's more the experience that you'd love. If you're planning on visiting make sure you bring formal attire - you're required to wear formal attire for dinner and dusk in the grounds. Hotel arranges pick up and drop off from the ferry. Make sure you have some drinks at the bar and enjoy the view of Mackinac Island and the lake.

Never been treated so poorly in my life. I have played golf in 27 states and I live in MI. The treatment I experienced leaves me disappointed and willing to tell everyone of the bad experience. Shame on the employees that don't show kindnesses to all not just guests of their hotel
